Hunter Thomas: Writing Portfolio
Revision
I hope for the following essay to serve as yet another artifact in my portfolio as well as a form of insight into my revision process. The article was written for a seminar class led by Dr. Ernest Gibson on Black Male Joy, inspired by a viewing and discussion of Moonlight as well as consistent discussions on the diversified nature of Black male identity. The article is an exploration of this very idea through analysis of the lives and works of filmmakers Spike Lee, Barry Jenkins, and Ryan Coogler, ultimately arguing against the monolithic stereotypes forced upon Black artists and Black people more generally.
Below is a three-step example of my approach to long form revision, the first step being the draft that I turned in at the end of the semester; the second, a brief but insightful essay on my revision process for this specific paper; and finally, the revised edition of the essay.
